Installing mobile apps without activesync

I've bought a new computer that runs Vista. When I came to install some programmes to my smartphone, it said that they couldn't be installed because activesync couldn't be found.

The Microsoft website says that Vista uses 'mobile centre' and that activesync cannot be installed. Is there any way around this?

Apart from installing XP?

If the installer is specifically designed to run through activesync, then no. Otherwise, you might be able to just extract the files from the installer and then just copy them to the PDA device.
