My sister's PC isn't booting anymore neither the POST test or memory checking. When you turn on the computer, a black screen appears with a message like this:

Award BIOS block 1998

BIOS checksum error
Insert floppy disk A:
Insert system disk and press enter.

The computer beeps, but it is an unusual beep. I know the beep codes for ram error, video card error. but this beep is different from them. I don't have a floppy drive - any ideas? Thanks

Sounds like a BIOS problem :)

Try finding the reset jumpers for your motherboard and resetting everything.

To reset BIOS you can remove motherboard battery. :)

Try discharge and reset the PC by removing the power cord and holding down the power button over 20 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and power on the PC again.

Removing the CMOS battery may help, try reset the CPU won't take too much time and worth a try.

Hope this helps!
Bill

Checksum means that the BIOS ROM is corrupted. Get a new mobo.
