Hello, I have a Sony Vaio laptop (VGN-FZ21M), Windows Vista, with an NVIDIA graphics card. Today my screen went black except for some multicolored pixel-y squiggles at the top of the screen. The computer resarted itself, said it had recovered from a display problem, but black and white squiggles still appear sporadically on my screen, though it hasn't yet gone black and had to restart on its own. I don't know much about computers, so could somebody please tell me what I could do? It's been just over a year since I bought this thing, so it's no longer under warranty.
Thanks.

Do the black and white squiggles appear in random locations, or are they always in identical locations?
Most likely, the issue is a driver problem. First run a virus scan (as this maybe the cause of the initial malfunction) and then goto the Sony support website and download the latest driver.
Once you have it downloaded and unzipped, goto
Start --> Control Panel --> Device Manager
Click to bring up the Display Drivers submenu and then select 'Update Drivers'. When it asks you for a software location, select where you unzipped the downloaded drivers from.

This is the major problems that is faced by all Sony vaio laptops. I think it necessary to read the reviews about anything you are willing to buy.
