View Full Version : Hi-Speed printer connection
My new printer keeps telling me "this device can perform faster if connected to a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 port", and reccomends I disconnect from current port and connect to a port on the USB Root Hub shown. There are 8 ports shown. How do make the change please. ako.:D
In order for you to use a high speed usb device, it must be connected to a USB2.0 socket. If you are getting that message, then that socket is not USB2, but USB1. Is this plugged into a seperate hub, or into the computer itself?
If the earlier, then you can connect physically to the computer or buy a USB 2 hub to use. If the latter then your computer probably doesn't have USB 2 sockets installed.

Can I just add to this: Even if your external USB hub is USB2.0 if you've connected it to USB socket on your PC that is only USB1.0 then you'll still be limited to 1.0.
I had this problem on a desktop PC and found I could buy a separate 4-port USB2.0 PCI card (not a hub) that boosted it high-speed.

When connected to USB 2.0 socket, then it performs must faster.
I purchased a new Fujitsu PI3745 Amilo Desktop PC and I was always getting the USB can perform faster alerts so I went down to PCworld (ripoff I know, but I wanted one quick) and purchased a USB2 4 port PCI card and that did the trick.
USB 2.0 is worth getting. Some newer USB products require it.
