CHKDSK

Hi all,
I have a problem with one of my harddrives, which I think is a bad block, however when I try to set up a chkdsk on reboot I receive a message saying that there is an error :
"C:\a owner unknown user" as I am the only registered user of the pc I am at a loss to understand how to correct this.
I am running Vista ultimate with two 350Gb harddisks
pc is a Dell insipron. Any help will be greatly appreciated

With Vista you need to make sure that the programme is being run as administrator mode. Sometimes, Vista wont warn you that it requires this access. When you open the programme, instead of double left clicking, single right click and select 'run as adminstrator'.

I tried that, but there is no "right click" on the button.

I am going to 'computer' selecting the drive then 'properties' then 'tools', 'error checking', 'Check now' button.

Am I doing something wrong here ?

Ok, go to start -> run -> type 'CHKDSK'

This runs the same programme from the command line instead of windows. Does this give the same error?

Works perfectly, had to do it twice as I forgot to type in the /f switch
