If anyone needs support on emachine, Advent, Medion Packard Bell or Compaq computers or anything else that comes out of the big shop in the high street, let me know. FREE SUPPORT to solve problems :)

My emachines g720 boots off vista DVD, but won't go past unpacking files-Microsoft Vista notification, after then it shows a cursor, an hourglass, then reboots and will continue to do so until shut down. Have substituted a new 120GB Hitachi hard drive, new Liteon DVD optical drive, changed memory three times (different brands, all PC2-5300, and changed boot configuration to IDE. I used webroot disc eraser and I installed windows XP XP3 sucessfully, trying to install vista on top of it, but after system restart after installing files, the machine rebooted and wouldn't continue with vista installation. Have installed XP drivers for sound and SM Bus, but can't find the rest- VGA, chipset, and net drivers. The laptop has a fairly new scorpio 320GB hard drive with 1GB Elpida PC2-5300 memory. Been to emachines tech support who thought the problem might be the HD controller, but if the HD controller is bad, how can it boot to XP and run well otherwise?
Hopefully you can help.

Hi mikem,

Are you sure the Vista install disc is working? If not, have you run the Vista upgrade scan - which will check to make sure your hardware is compatible.

If XP installs and runs fine, then the hardware is working. So either it isn't compatible or the Vista disc is not working.
