Hey there,

My Girl recently got a Dell Inspiron N5040, when we first turned it on, after a few mins it randomly restarted, i thought maybe its just an update (had to install loads of windows updates) however, over the past week, its being doing it every time its been turned off for a few hours... however once it restarts and comes back on, it usually is fine, It's only when leaving it a long while then turning it back on, it does the same again, and today for the first time we got a blue screen of death, which i believe may lead to some answers, here is the report:

Hi James,

Three thoughts immediately spring to mind - firstly it could be that it still hasn't downloaded all updates yet, a software problem or that it could be a temperature issue. When a computer detects that it is overheating, it shuts down (sometimes restarts) to protect itself.

When you got the laptop, was it new? Did the restarts happen before or after the updates started?

When you're using the laptop, are you using it on a bed/carpet or using it on a desk?

Hi, A BSOD can be cause by a lot of factors. I suggest you take note of the error code once it happens again. It would look like 0x000000** where the asterisks are either numbers or letters or both. Try checking this link as well to get an idea of how to fix them once you have the error code. http://www.techyv.com/questions/how-stop-bluescreen-error
