Hi neil,
The only thing that I can suggest is that your computer doesn't seem to think there is any ram in it! RAM will always make a computer run better, it may not be noticable, but you can never have too much. What type of RAM are you using? I'm assuming, with it being a P4, that you are using either DDR or DDR2, in which case you need to make sure that whatever ram you have in there is in the correct place as DDR technology requires 2 sticks of ram to make the most out of it.

hi gatto
im using ddr pc2700/333 and its run fine for 3 months on 256mb,and fitting the new ram did slow it down to the extent i mayas well been on dial up,it is like you say the pc seems to think there no ram there but y,i spoke to a guy in a shop and he said id sparked the board but think he just wanted to sell me a new pc or something

You say that it slowed the PC down that you may as well be on dialup. Is it the internet that it slowed down or the computer?

Did you check to make sure that you'd pushed the ram back into the slot with enough force that it clicked?
apparently iv sparked the mobo so need a new one
