im buying new speakers and i was wondering if dts is like where a gunshot is heard in front of you and behind you?

Correct - DTS is the dolby surround sound system. Are these speakers for games or films? Most films are now 5.1 surround but games are not - but you can do Pseudo surround sound where the computer mixes the front 2 speakers to push out the rear 2 as well.
