I have an external USB 2 hard drive. Will it work with firewire?

Does your external drive support firewire? If not, then no.

There's another port on it that isn't usb or parallel, so it must be firewire.

Riiight - chances are it would be firewire then rather than scsi or other. If you have a cable, then you should just try it.
