Is there some form of external ram, ie for a laptop, that I can plug in to boost memory?

Gatto - that isn't helpful!!

But, essentially correct. Windows Vista, however, has a feature called 'readyboost' where you can use flash memory to supplement RAM. But it is only useful where you have less than 1GB.

It will actually slow your computer down if you have more than 1GB of RAM!!
