I have a Compaq SFF D500 pc.
Worked fine before, have since saved formatted drive so cannot return.
Upgarding or trying to upgrade to a larger 400gb hard drive.
Just to list what I have done so far to no avail.
Changed bios to boot first from cd, didnt boot.
Changed cd rom in case faulty, still didnt boot.
Downloaded xp startup files from Microsoft on another pc and copied to 6 floppy disks.
Changed bios to boot first from diskette, got error message: Boot: I/0 error reading disk, please insert another disk.
Changed diskette drive in case faulty, still got same error message.
Recopied files to floppy disks, still got same error message.
Have installed a hard drive fully installed with xp from another pc but still wont boot.

400 Hard drive has been my external drive originally, have since fully formatted and have disk checked, no errors etc.

Dunno what else I can try now, any ideas????

Since

1) You changed CDs
2) Tried booting from another medium
3) Tried on another computer,

this leads me to say that the Compaq has a dead Motherboard.
