Default HELP! i cannot look at facebook at work?

this one has me stumped

firstly i am using IE6 and i enter in the url www.facebook.com
this then pickup a redivert to the local intranet page saying this is a prohibited site, we dont use proxy servers here i think someone been tampering, i have checked the host file which shows no problems, i have tired upgrading to IE7 still the same, i also suspected the registry but where the heck if anything would it be?

Hi Bikeboy, welcome to the forum!

For a website to come up prohibited, especially facebook, then the IT admin of the company is most likely the culprit and has blocked it as part of your company's IT policy. This is standard practice - the same happens at my office.

If that isn't the case, then check to make sure its not just you thats having the problem. If others are then its not a computer specific problem. Do you use a router / central server that is the main route to the internet? Most likely someone, as you suspect, will have been playing around with the permission settings.

Fair enough - so that narrows the field down quite a bit.

Permission setting on router - who is the internet provider? Do you have access to the router settings to check if someone could have blocked just your ip address from using these websites.

If its not that then we'll work on what software could be causing it.

Try accessing youtube directly with their ip address: 208.65.153.238

If not working, then try pinging it. This should help ascertain whether its a IE specific problem or not.

No luck looking at the router settings?

Have you installed any programmes recently? Anti-virus or firewall etc.?
