Default Dell Inspiron 6000 How much memory can I have

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop running XP. I would like to upgrade from the supplied 512mb ram currently split over 2 x 256mb chips.

What is the maximum memory that I can install ?
Does it need to, or what is the advantage in splitting the memory over 2 chips

Most computer talk is complete gibberish to me so I would appreciate it if any comments could be simple

Thanks

Hi Jell,

Your laptop can take upto 2gb (2048mb) of ram over 2 chips. Crucial have these chips for £11.50 each.

The type of ram is DDR2 PC2-5000.

Hope that helps.
