Default XP wireless conundrum

I have XP on a computer I'd like to reactivate (bought a laptop with vista ...then decided to stick more Ram in the Desktop - zoom).
I haven't used it for well over two years, so all the updates and virus stuff have lapsed.
Got the wireless working...sort of.
Only trouble is that whenever I go to get updates, a dialoge box comes up saying I have to connect - then gives no option to just continue with the netgear connection I'm already using....a real catch 22.
I think I might have some virus or malware issuses too - wouln't let me connect to ANY anti-virus site.
Advice appreciated

Hi HuRu, did you get this sorted?

If not, try repairing the connection by right clicking the Wireless icon on the task tray - Thats if you are using the built in Windows Wireless feature and not a 3rdparty one. If you are using other software what it this called?

Are you getting any alert bubbles such as 'limited or no connectivity'?

Also, is your wireless secured? Maybe you need to input a WEP key/Passcode to give full access?

Hope this helps.

This is simply a virus problem. You need not bother yourself and just take it to the engineer to remove the virus.
