    Default CD/DVD selectively not working

My internal CD/DVD drive has stopped playing about half my games. Some games work every time, others never - the drive won't even recognise a disc has been inserted.

However the non working discs work in my friends drives. I have even taken out the drive and replaced it with one from an old computer but it is exactly the same.

I could understand if it stopped playing anything but not some. For example Far Cry/Call of Duty 2 always load. Medieval Total War/Medal of Honour never work.

I have checked out the drive in device manager and it says it is working properly. I have run numerous virus scans but nothing has been found.

    Help !

    Welcome to the forum Chunkycat!

When you replaced the drive, was it using another drive in your computer or using your drive in another computer?

If its the earlier then it will be a problem with Windows, if its the latter than it will be a problem with the drive.

Have you tried uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling? (As cliched as it sounds, Windows can be very odd!)

    Thanks for the advice Chris

I uninstalled the device then reinstalled it. This did not work.

I googled the names of the drive and ended up at www.nodevice.com, from here I installed a new driver and it now works !

Glad to hear it works, and thank you for posting your solution!
What will you be doing on Christmas Eve? What better way to get your children into bed then to have them join the search for santa!
