Webcam problems after messenger 09 update

After installing the latest version of windows live I am unable to see myself on webcam.

My contacts can see me but I cannot see myself in the preview screen for my camera.

All I see is a picture as if my camera was disconnected.

I also cannot turn my own webcam on via messenger , the icon behaves as if my camera is not plugged in or recognised. I have to wait for someone to request to view my cam , then it works but without my own preview screen.

I have re-installed the old version of messenger for now but would very much like a fix for my webcam problem so I can enjoy the benefits of the latest updates.

Specs:

OS : Windows XP SP3
Webcam : Microsoft Lifecam VX-3000
Messenger version : Windows live messenger 2009 (latest build)

From the menu icon, select Tools --> Webcam settings.

Does it detect it from here?

From Tools --> Options --> Personal

Is 'Allow others to see that I have a webcam' checked?
