    Default USB devices not recognised

    Hi Guys,
The other night I connected my new external harddrive, which I have used before, to do a backup. My monitor screen suddenly went black. After unplugging from the mains the monitor started to work again. Unfortunately I now realise that none of my USB ports work. Nothing I connect is recognised. My son says that something has gone on my motherboard and I now need a replacement. My fear is, because I do not know what I did wrong, If I spend money on a new motherboard what will prevent the same thing happening again?

    Best wishes

It definately sounds like something has gone on the motherboard. What did you unplug from the mains for the motherboard to start working again?

It may be that the external drive has a power short that over volted the usb plug and in turn fried the board.

Unplug the USB device, and then plug the device back into the computer or hub. If your computer still does not recognize the device, then there is a problem in motherboard.
