Unhappy Laptop keeps freezing and slowing

Hello, I wondered if someone could help me.

My one year old Fujitsu Siemens Li2727, which I defrag and maintain regularly, keeps slowing down and freezing
    when online.
This is very annoying as I run a business and it generally happens at the worst times.
Some days it seems okay, but then some days it seems to be playing catch up with every click I make.
It simply shows the little timer, busy then freezes altogether and despite pressing ctrl+alt+del, task manager does not come up, it sits for a while then eventually, usually after I've sworn a great deal, it decides to come back to life, hurriedly catching up with the things it was meant to be doing!

    Grrr!

I defrag regularly, once a month or so and have done disk checks and really don't understand why this is happening, so if anyone out there could help me I'd be very grateful.

Also, the mouse pointer keeps going haywire...sometimes choosing to run all over the screen and highlight everything - does anyone know why this happens??

Please be patient with me, not technically minded at all!

    Thank you

    FionaT.

Do you ever delete your temp files if not then just delete that once.

Does this happen outside of using the internet? Or is it entirely on the internet?

    What browser do you use?
Need to know your IP? Need to find WHOIS data for a website or IP address? Want to know your Google PageRank? Then you need Domain Tools!

If it's when you're on the internet, it could quite possibly be a trojan or other form of Virus, using your machine in the background. Check your antivirus software is up to date. Also check your firewall is intact and working and keep an eye on what's trying to get through it!
