    Question Dongle

    Hi,
I have just made a computer and am wondering what dongle people would recommend?
Also is it better to use a dongle or a board?
    Thanks!

I have used both a card and a dongle before. I guess the advantage of a dongle is its portability and the fact you can use it with another computer or device supporting it.

If you are building a PC I would probably use a wireless card (I like neat fixed components) but then again it depends on if you want that portablilty. They both do their job.

Belkin and netgear seem to be the most reliable.

I used a cheaper brand card once but it caused conflicts with my Ubuntu OS which I installed it on. Chances are if you use windows you will be fine anyway.

It really is a personal preference

My choice would be a belkin wireless G USB dongle for portability I think. My current PC is wired.

Even I have used dongle before. Portability and flexibility are the chief factors that make it a good option.

I would go for a board, since I have some cats the worst possible thing is to have a cat decide to knock stuff out my computer, hence I keep as much as possible internal, a dongle is much simpler to use however.

    Hi,

usb wi-fi dongles are a less reliable than an internal pci wireless nic adaptor imho, the antenna is smaller, less signal strengh and may suffer more connection problems, cables are available to boost the signal and it helps by moving it around and raising it high to get the best reception, since you have built a pc then I assume you are ok to install an internal adaptor yourself, I use a dongle for the 3 mobile broadband network and its quite slow.

    hope that helps,
