Updated Bios as part of reinstall - now a problem
My first post so be gentle please. My friends computer had loads of problems so decided to do a reinstall of windows xp on her dell desktop.
Thought there might have been numerous virus etc do wiped drives with DBAN (successful) and reinstalled xp. Installed all the drivers from their website (based on the service tag) and basic security and all necessary updates. all went very well and working fantastic.
I decided to update the Bios (recommended by Dell) and there it all went wrong. I of course now wish I had left it alone. The computer still works however on starting it freezes at launch and states 'diskette drive 0 seek failure' press 1 to continue. I do that and the pc launches as normal and all works. Just on every start up it does the same thing.
on upgrading the BIOS (using the tag and dell website so the correct updates ok) it found a floppy drive (icon in my computer) (which the pc does not have and was never on the pc!!) I tried to roll it back to the original version (dell gave me option to do this) but the same problem exists. I then tried the one before latest version (because it apparently is the most stable) but again identical problem (freeze at start up with the same error message on black screen and required to press F1 to continue)
I do not want to continue with this as even thought it looks like the pc is working well i have not put on all the usual programs and therefore not all parts have been fully functional yet - i expect a problem later down the line.
is there any way i can fix this bios or should i just delete the partitions and do another clean install before putting all the software back on again. altho frustrating it would only be a few hours work again??

Have you tried re-ordering the boot device list so that the floppy drive is last?
What will you be doing on Christmas Eve? What better way to get your children into bed then to have them join the search for santa!
Alternatively, is there an option from within BIOS to disable the floppy drive? (Probably an IDE interface labelled FDC or FDS)
