Default the file cdrom.sys is corrupted

I am having sooooooo much trouble upgrading to a larger hard drive on my Compaq Evo SFF D500.
The genuine xp disk wont boot even though changed boot order in bios. I have now downloaded SP2 Xp startup disks from Microsoft and have now changed boot to boot from diskette first.
Trouble is I am now getting the error message: the file cdrom.sys is corrupted

    What now???

Can you use the original disk? If so, then it may be a problem with the new disk.
