    Default Laptop Keeps "forgetting connection"!

I am suffering from an irritating problem. For a friend I set up a netgear DG8347G and the PC is wired in and the laptop is set up to connect wirelessly.

I connect using the laptop and restart 3 or 4 times and it connects with no problems.

Unfortunately, when I have returned home they have called me the next day to say the laptop is not connecting! I thought it might be a driver issue, so I brought the laptop back home and renewed drivers and then allowed it to connect to my network with no problem and over 2 or 3 days it always connected.

I returned to their house and switched the laptop on and did the WEP key and all was well. I then did 2 or 3 restarts with no problems.......well 5 hours later they have just called me to say.....it is not connecting - it keeps coming up with "Problem connecting to netgear - press here to troubleshoot".

Has anyone got any ideas? Have I missed a setting somewhere?

    Many thanks

    Hi Diver9

What OS is the laptop running? Is the WEP key changing or is it always the same?

Is your wireless router capable of WPA2encryption instead of WEP?

Gatto - thanks for the reply.

Laptop is running XP Pro and the router is capable of WPA, not checked if the laptop can pick it up!

I am over at their house on Tuesday eveing with the intention of getting this sorted once and for all - if it is the router I will get them to get a tiscali one.

I am going to change the channels and also check the wireless lan configuration on the laptop to make sure it is not set to switch off on standby or anything stupid like that.

The confusing part is that I never get the same problem on mine although i am using a more modern Acer with windows 7.

    Any ideas?

In our experience with these issues it usually ends up being user-error. They're not going in and doing something silly? I.e. Disconnecting?!

Just an aside: www.considerit.co.uk/key.exe might come in handy.
