    Default Memory Upgrade

At the moment my computer has 256mb memory and to make it faster I was going to upgarde to 1gb memory. This might sound like a really stupid question but....

Does the memory module actually store any data, so that when I put the new memory in I have to transfer anything onto the new memory?

I have a Dell Dimension 1100, what kind of memory should I be looking for?

Your dell can support up to 2GB of ram - so no worries there.

Ram is what is known as 'volatile memory' - which means that when the computer is switched off, it is wiped clean (as opposed to the hard drive which stores information even with no power). All you need to do is to switch off your computer, and insert the new chips (you will only ahve 2 slots though - so take that into account when buying). The computer uses PC2700 DDR ram. Nice and cheap from many online shops!
