    Default Firefox crashes on Vista!

I've recently upgraded to Vista HP and installed the latest Firefox (2.0.0.11). On most sites it runs fine, but when I try to add photos on facebook it hangs. For a few weeks I just used IE when I wanted to add photos which was a bit annoying. But it happened today on a different site (a WebCT interface). Does anyone know if there might be some external application which is used by both facebook and webCT which is breaking?

FF2 and WebCT are not compatible and are listed as such. Apparently, there should be a FF update that will rectify this. FF1.5 and above have issues with the html editor.

Advice is to either wait for the update or to use FFv1.

I don't know of any issues with Facebook, are you sure that the images being uploaded are not just large (ie 10s of mb) and so just take a long time?

No - the latest version of firefox works fine with WebCT; I've never had any problems with it when it ran on XP. In fact, the only pages I've ever had firefox specific issues with are parts of the microsoft website...

Both interfaces use Java, and it is this which is causing the problems.

This is actually a problem relating to Vista's rather overbearing security controls; when started normally Firefox does not have admin privileges allowing it to make the registry changes needed to install the Java plugin properly. As detailed here:

    http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/10/f...work-on-vista/

the solution is to right click on the icon when you want to run Firefox, and select "run as administrator". Go onto the site that uses Java (eg facebook photo upload), and wait for it all to install and it should then work correctly.

This is a one time fix, ie once Java has been installed with admin privileges, you do not need to keep providing admin privileges and can just start firefox normally.
