    Default Ressurect dead hard drive

    How can i repair my hard drive when its motor is dead? I want to get my stuff off it, or maybe even repair it sufficeintly to get it working properly again.

    HDD are not servicable components, and if you've already opened it up then you've probably voided the warranty. Also, the slightest spec of dust will destroy the data.

    If you haven't opened it up, are you sure its the motor?

    Well the bios says that its getting power, its just not spinning.

    Lol - no i havent opened it up. How can i recover the data?

    If the disk is not spinning, then you wont be able to at home - you'd need to send off to a specialist. Attempting to get it to spin may damage the drive - for example, one of the read heads might be stuck to the disk itself.

    Send to a specialist and don't attempt to recover yourself - you'll probably end up damaging the data.
